If you are anything like me and my family, you love all food. Especially pizza, tacos, taco pizza, pizza quesadillas (an invention courtesy of my husband, Nate). See a theme?
In addition to our love of Mexican and Italian cuisine, we are also believers of clean eating. Why? Well, have you noticed how great you feel after eating real, whole food for a few days? And how terrible you feel after one day of binging on processed food? Enough said.
Back to clean eating… We’ve been on this bandwagon for a few years, but continued to fall off miserably. We’d think we had the hang of it, only to learn that dairy may or may not be considered clean. Same for the homemade whole wheat bread I was making on a bi-weekly basis. Don’t even get me started on the organic versus non-organic avocados… There were so many rules that once one was broken, it felt like we were failures, leading to even more rule-breaking (ordering pizza, binging on ice cream, etc.).
It took a few years, but we finally came to the realization that clean eating and the confusing rules associated with it weren’t for us. However, clean(ish) eating was something our entire family could get on board with.
Guidelines for Clean(ish) Eating
- Choose real, whole foods over processed foods whenever possible.
- Purchase items with ingredients you can pronounce.
- If you are at a birthday party, eat the cake. It’s a celebration!
That’s it. 3 guidelines that real people can follow with proper planning—and you still get to eat the cake. This blog is created to inspire you down this journey, helping you feel better, be happier, and live a fuller (pun intended) life.
Thanks and happy clean(ish) eating!
